In my life I have encountered Jesus through my salvation, nature and people that have crossed my path as I journey daily with my Lord. My most recent, and one I cherish, is when God called me back to care for my mother in her last years.
We had been estranged for many years without having a relationship. I had many conversations with the Lord about being drawn back to care for her. Honestly, I have to say many were on my terms. I quickly found out the “apple didn’t fall far from the tree” in pride and stubbornness.
By now Momma was 82 and suffering from Stage 4 Renal failure among other illnesses. Each day would begin with a “I need help Father,’ and end with ‘I am do thankful You are guiding me’. I was up against family members who had been reluctant to care for her, but now criticized every decision.
The worse things got the more I needed my Jesus. Momma and I began a new mother/daughter relationship. She had to trust me and I had to trust my Lord. Some days I would be angry and some days in a constant flow of emotions. This went on for about 4 years. At the end of Momma’s time, Dialysis wasn’t working and on Good Friday of 2014, we had spent all week together. I would get in bed with her and smell her skin and sing to her until she gets would drift off to sleep.
Momma was different this day. She opened her eyes and looked over my shoulder toward the corner of the room. I asked her if she was okay. She smiled, child like with her blue eyes clear, almost like she had a secret. I said, Momma what do you see? She said. I see Jesus and your Daddy and my Momma and Daddy. I asked her what did Jesus look like. Her response was, “He’s so beautiful can’t you see Him?” I said yes Momma, I did see Him, in the peace on her face.
I knew it would soon be time for her to leave this earth and be with her Lord. I encountered Jesus through His forgiveness, loving my Momma in a way I never knew and His Grace to walk with me through the valleys I faced during this time. One of the greatest gifts was giving me an opportunity to be a loving, respectful daughter. I am at peace.

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.
He makes me lie down in green pastures,
He leads me beside quiet waters,
He refreshes my soul.
He guides me along the right paths
for his name’s sake.
Even though I walk
through the darkest valley,
I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
your rod and your staff,
they comfort me.
You prepare a table before me
in the presence of my enemies.
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Surely your goodness and love will follow me
all the days of my life,
and I will dwell in the house of the Lord
