Living In Resurrection Power

Living In Resurrection Power

Set Free!

On my daughter’s last trip to Scandinavia, she and her team encountered thousands of people at their gatherings. Her team would partner with local churches to hold these special events. During these gathering, they worshipped and shared about the saving grace of Jesus. Over eight weeks, their team witnessed over 500 young adults come to know Jesus as their personal Savior.

After one of their gatherings, a young lady came to my daughter and said, “Jesus said He wants to deliver me tonight.” As the scriptures teach, this girl experienced demonic possession. I received a text from my daughter to pray with a brief message of what she was praying for. Over the next couple of days and hours of prayer, through the mighty name of Jesus, God set this girl free!

When my daughter returned home last month, she said I need you to see something. Pulling out her phone, she showed me this girl’s Facebook page. She opened up a picture of the girl before they had prayed, and her new profile picture from after prayer. She looked vibrant. This girl looked completely different. She looked lighter. Set free!

As I have mentioned over the past few weeks, Jesus died for so much. Jesus died for salvation, eternal life, for healing, for freedom, so we can live in God’s presence and so much more. In this post, we will continue down the path we started last week of what Jesus did on the cross, but also how we live in this resurrection power.

The Second Adam

Last time we journeyed back to the Garden of Eden, where sin began. Adam, which means man, whom many refer to as the first Adam. Many scholars refer to Jesus as the fulfillment, as the second Adam, because He restores where the first Adam failed. So let’s dig into a few more of these comparisons that we started last time. If you missed the last post, you can read it here.

Six Hours On The Cross

In the book of Genesis, God created man on the sixth day, making six the number of man. We know seven as the number of perfection and completion. Man stands just short of God’s perfection. When Jesus died on the cross, it’s by no accident that He hung there for six hours to redeem all of mankind.

They Broke None Of His Bones

When criminals who hung on the cross took ‘too much time to die’, the soldiers would often break their legs to speed up the process of suffocation. Pilate told the soldiers to do this, but when they arrived at the cross of Jesus, they saw He was already dead. This fulfilled the prophecy of David in Psalm 34:20 that no bones in His body would break.

They Pierced His Side

Instead, the soldiers pierced His side. Have you ever thought about why they would pierce His side? Go back to the garden once again. What part of Adam did God create Eve from? Adam’s side, his rib. What a beautiful picture. When pierced, what came out? Blood and water. Blood representing the blood that saves us through the crucifixion and the water that cleanses us when we respond through baptism.

Jesus’ Heart Broke For You

Want to hear something even more amazing? The only medical explanation for water and blood to come out together is if someone’s heart bursts. Take that in for a moment. This means that Jesus’ heart burst. His heart broke for you. Not only did He think of you as He hung there, but His heart broke for you, too. He saw every way in which we would sin and His heart broke.

How Can We Not Walk In Victory?

Knowing this, how can we not walk in victory? Jesus gave up His life to save ours. To give us life in Christ. To give us resurrection power. Knowing everything Jesus did for us on the cross should change us from the inside out. Just like the girl I mentioned above who Jesus set free, she looked different. God made her a new creation.

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”

2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV

Before He died, Jesus told His disciples they would do greater things than He did.

”Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.”

John 14:12-14 NIV

What were these things Jesus did? He healed the sick; He cast out demons, Jesus raised the dead, and most importantly, He loved people in a way that can only be done through the power of the cross. When we come to understand this resurrection power, we, too, can do all of this for Him.

Some of you may be thinking, Jen, I am not so sure about this. I want to encourage you to read the gospels, Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. Pray for God to mold your heart as you read through them. If you don’t feel changed or emboldened when you finish, read them again. Keep reading till it goes from head knowledge to heart knowledge.

What Does It Look Like To Live In Resurrection Power?

This is what it looks like living in resurrection power. To live a life of joy because of all He has done for you. He wants to live as a conqueror. Romans 8:37 says, “We are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” This does not mean arrogant, proud, and living in our own strength. This means to live humble, bold for the things of Jesus, and sharing the love of Jesus with those around you.

I want to encourage you as we come to the end of this lenten season to seek God more. Let this be a beginning and not an end. Ask Him where He wants to grow you. Where might He want to empower you more? Ask Him for supernatural boldness to do things for Him you never thought you would do. One of my best memories from a house guest was when this man (who had come to lead a healing retreat) woke up and woke the rest of the house by shouting, “Good Morning Jesus, what are we going to do today?” That is how I want to live. On the edge of my seat, seeing where God will guide me each day to draw others closer to Him.

  1. Thanks, Jen, for sharing the beautiful testimony from your daughter. Praise the Lord for the girl’s deliverance! Happy Resurrection Day to you as we celebrate all the reasons you shared about why Jesus suffered for us.

  2. Your message makes me want to shout with joy as the man did when he awakened everyone in the household. You’ve reminded us how much our Lord sacrificed for us and His great love for us. I pray we never forget.
